La Liga - Round 14: FC Barcelona vs Granada CF
Hey Everybody, I’m back after what seems like an eternity, but actually; it’s only been two weeks. I have really enjoyed these past two weeks and I have been applying the knowledge that I have learned in the first month to real use when working with patients on a basic level. I believe that working in a real-life situation like this, requires a great amount of courage and a certain amount of risk. In my opinion, taking part in any Cooperative Education program requires a great amount of courage. Why do I believe so? Well, that is really simple, by participating in any Co-op program; you are taking the chance of having an enjoyable time throughout the year. In addition to that, many other peers and friends would convince you not to take it, as they feel you do not need a real-life experience so early in your life. Furthermore, theoretically you may feel like this is the perfect placement for you, but when it comes to actually being in that work environment, it may not be the best for you. It is not just me that feels this way, as there is another individual who also believes that Courage and risk are big factors in new experiences, Neymar Jr. How does Neymar taking courage and risk to join one of the biggest soccer clubs have any correlation with me, participating in a seemingly unimportant Co-op program? Well that is simple, I have always showed a comparison between Neymar and myself through the way we approach new and difficult situations. But, Neymar must have been pulled down by his team-mates and the fans of his previous club, Santos FC. That is just like how I was being pulled down by friends not to join this Co-op program. But both of us showed courage and decided to go against the odds and take risks. That is something that I will expand on later on in this bi-weekly summary. On a side note, Neymar is doing great with 2 great assists in the second half against a 10-man Granada who conceded two penalties in the 1st half. Like always, Neymar’s ability to score and create great chances as well as provide key assists is only growing; day by day.
Was courage a factor in my participation in this co-op program? Undoubtedly, it definitely was as I had a lot of people who were trying to convince me not to by saying Co-op is useless and Co-op is a waste course. That really made me think, should I really be taking co-op or is it just a big mistake. But then I realized working in a hospital for the whole year would not be useless/ waste; instead it would be helpful for me. I thought to myself, having 200 hours of experience working in a hospital would only do me good; definitely nothing negative. It was the day I had to submit my course selections, and despite many of my friends trying to pull me down, I chose to take Co-op and that was a huge risk/gamble; which turned out to be successful. But that was just the first part of the risk, as I did not make it to my placement yet. After applying to Markham Stouffville Hospital, I was not too sure about if I would get accepted to the hospital as it is one of the most popular Co-op placements for the medical field and they only accept the best of the best. Then, it was the third week of my Pre-placement when my co-op teacher told me that I have an interview at the hospital in a few days. I thought to myself, “Maybe this risk is playing off and it was good that I showed this courage.” I soon found out that I have been accepted into the hospital in the cardiorespiratory department, and I was ecstatic as I finally realized that the great amount of courage I took to participate in this program paid off. Eventually I would soon find out that this is a perfect placement for me as I am really enjoying it; exceptionally.
Did Neymar really show a lot of courage to change his soccer club from a small town Brazilian one (Santos FC) to one of the most well-known one on the face of the globe (FC Barcelona)? Well, yes he did in more than just a few ways. Imagine moving from South America to Europe for 8 years? Wouldn’t it take a lot of courage to pull that off? Yes it would, but who would be convincing you not to move, maybe family members and some other relatives. But for Neymar, his whole fan following along with members of his old club were all against his move. If pulling off a move like that does not show courage… then I don’t know what does! It is not just showing the courage and taking risks that is important, but the successfulness of showing this courage that matters. Neymar has definitely proven his worth for Barcelona numerous times as he has the most assists in the Spanish league along with being the most fouled player in the same league. This shows that he is a brilliant winger and does his job quite respectfully and with full dedication. Just scoring a couple of assists is not what shows success, as he was the player that scored the equalizer against Atletico Madrid in the Super Copa, which eventually resulted in Barca’s first silverware of the season. He has definitely taken a lot of courage to make this flabbergasting move from Santos to Barcelona.
Well it is quite obvious that both Neymar and I have taken large risks and shown great spurts of courage by making moves that were against the beliefs/views of many around us including peers, friends, and family. But, it was worth it at the end as we both had attained success in our respective fields, him in Barcelona and me in Markham Stouffville Hospital. Although there was more pressure on him for his move, as he would lose his footballing career if he made the wrong choice, I had to make the right decision or I would have to suffer my bad consequences; for 1 entire year.
It was quite enjoyable to share my views on courage and risks, while giving an interesting comparison between Neymar and myself. Although I didn’t go into much of a detail in either my placement or Neymar’s position at Barcelona, I will leave you with how I felt we both did at our own places. Well, I felt that working in this type of hospital is really beneficial as I am not only able to learn about the human body, but also be able to apply it on a variety of patients. On the other hand, Neymar has played out of his skins in the last few matches were he provided key assists and created many chances in the absence of Barcelona’s trio: Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta. All in all, it was a great 2 weeks and next week I’ll find something else to talk about; perhaps something more interesting. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns; feel free to contact me through the about us page and fill in the form as I will try my best to get back to you ASAP! Like Always, It’s adios from Camp Nou on November 24 2013 as we hope to discuss more of our views on Neymar and on myself at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
