UCL Group Stage - Game 4: AC Milan vs FC Barcelona
It has been a while since I've talked to you guys about how I am starting to feel at my new placement, as it has been 1 whole month! Well, lets just say I have had positive and negative experiences, I have faced many challenges, be it through the way I am working or the expectations of my supervisor. However, I have really enjoyed this month and I have learned a lot about this career. You all must be thinking, what about Neymar? Yes I know the only reason you read this is only to learn about how Neymar is doing, so I will also talk to you about how he feels after this victory over Milan, and what he had learned as well as many of his experiences. But before I get into depth talking about Neymar, I would like to give you an overview of some of my challenges and experiences that I felt in this month. Throughout the duration of this month, I have had many positive and enjoyable experiences; be it through my interactions with patients or being able to understand the different types of cardiology tests. Sure I really enjoyed this placement so far, but I would be lying if I were to say that I didn't face any challenges. Some of these challenges occurred while I was cleaning up the equipment, since I am not the "meticulous" type of person. One thing that I can be very sure about is what I have learned, as I have learned many new interesting facts about the cardiovascular system and the different type of tests on patients. One question that I have asked myself before is, "Why do I want to become a cardiologist?" Well I can easily answer that question now, since I have observed the cardiologist at the hospital and what he does. Similar to me, Neymar has also faced challenges, learned new things and had a wide variety of experiences. But, what type of experiences am I talking about? Well just keep on reading and you will soon find out!
During this one month long stay at my placement I have learned many new things, including facts about the heart and how a heart disorder can prove to be fatal for the entire body, as well as how stress and echo tests work as well as the heart monitors. I have learned that a hole in a human heart or an open valve can cause blood clots and blood pooling, eventually resulting in a potential stroke if excess blood flows to the brain. In addition to that I have learned about the types of tests that take place, stress and echo tests. It is very interesting to be able to find a correlation between an individual's BP or HR and their cardiovascular conditions. I observed this one patient who happened to have a valve in their heart which did not close properly; resulting in blood pooling. As a result of this unnecessary blood leakage, the individual faced a heart attack and a stroke. It is very interesting to view cases like this, as they give you an idea of how a future job in this field of medicine would be like. In addition to the knowledge that I have gained, there have been some very positive experiences that have changed the way I think about this field. A positive experience that I have previously experienced was the enjoyment of working with patients, as I feel that by using my great communication skills, I am only helping the patients feel better or at least be happy; mentally. Another positive experience is the way I am able to understand how the tests work and which test would be more effective in a certain situation; as this is something I enjoy learning about. Challenging tasks are a part of every placement, for me it was while I was cleaning the holters wires as I am not exactly "meticulous." However I always strive to do better every time, as I am know being more accurate in this task. Another challenging task that I preform is separating nuclear test forms as it is takes a long time to do; I am quite capable to preform this, but it is just very time-consuming. Furthermore, I have made many observations about the career of a Cardiologist, in general. These observations include the traits that are required of this specialist; being patient, working with detail, and having a thorough understanding of how the heart functions with respect to the cardiovascular system. In addition to that, another observation I have taken is that being a cardiologist takes a lot of dedication towards cardiology and having an optimistic attitude; something that I have. As tensed as I feel, working in an entirely new environment, I have a mentor/co-worker who always helps me and gives me advice on any situation or task that I am having trouble with. That is very useful as I am quite new to this work environment; compared to him and my other co-workers.
Its time to talk about one of the greatest Barcelona forwards, Neymar. Well this forward has preformed exceedingly well in this recent game as he made 2 assists to Leo Messi. That is definitely some great work by the Brazilian, but an important question is, "How does Neymar feel after being in Barcelona for 100 Days?" Well I could tell you all about it in my own words, or I could just give you excerpts from his press conference; and leave it up to you. After the game with Milan, Neymar talked a lot about how he feels, fitting into the Barca style. Neymar feels that he had many positive experiences that he had, but would outline a few important ones. "Playing with Messi is one of the greatest feelings in the world." "It's not every day that you can play with a superstar like Leo in a match as great as an El Clasico" This clearly shows us that Neymar believes that playing for Barcelona alone has positively impacted his attitude every time he walks on to the pitch for Barca. When Neymar was asked what he finds challenging, playing for Barca; he responded quite honestly, " I can't lie, it is frustrating being tackled so much, but one has to get used to these hurdles." Neymar also added that he believes he has crossed his greatest challenge of all time, adjusting to the playing style of Barca. This Brazilian star believes that through this first few months at Barca, he has learned a variety of new things, "I have learned how to play by the way of the tika-tika and how to preform as a winger rather than a striker." Neymar added that he feels that he observed how Villa played Left-wing for Barcelona and has implemented many of Villa's methods to be successful as both a goal-scorer and an assist-maker at this position. Juts before the press-conference was completed, one reporter asked him, "How did you make such a big move to Barcnfa so easily? Did you have anybody to help you here?" Neymar simply told him that his fellow Brazilian team-mate, Dani Alves helped him adjust to an entirely new environment, much how my co-worker at the hospital helped me adjust to a new placement.
Sure It was great to learn about how Neymar is doing at Barca, but the real question is how does that correlate to me at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Well that is simple, as I have previously stated Neymar and I have very similar viewpoints and attitudes when dealing with new situations. We both had a mentor or a friend that helped us get used to our new work environments, be it Alves for Neymar or the co-worker/supervisor for myself. However those are not the only similarities, as we both have faced tough and challenging tasks in our new workplaces. Neymar has showed that by making what could possibly one of the hardest moves ever from an almost unknown club (Santos FC) to one of the world's most popular club (FC Barcelona), despite the pressure being on him he did not fail to impress as he has the most assists in the Spanish league as of now. But, how have I shown that I am able to face tough challenges? Well, I have done that by working hard and trying to be as detailed-oriented as possible, no matter what type of work I do; including cleaning holters wires. My hard work and commitment has reaped success as my co-workers and supervisor have appreciated the way in which I completed the task(s).
Well, it was an excellent opportunity to be able to share my views and thoughts regarding my work at the hospital in the past month as well as the way Neymar has been able to play well in his new club. The positive experiences that I have experienced in this past month have contributed to how much I enjoy this new placement. On top of that, I have been able to learn and discover many interesting facts about the ever-appealing cardiovascular system and the many processes and functions that occur in it on a daily basis. As a result of this, I have been able to further secure my strong interest in the career of a Cardiologist. One question that I am still unable to answer is, "How and what can I do to further improve on the amount of initiative I show at my workplace?" Neymar has also been exposed to the realities of the Spanish League, and although he faced challenging tasks, he came out with flying colors as he has the most assists in the league and as he continues to impress his team-mates, coach, and fans on a regular basis. That is very similar to the way I have been impressing my co-workers, supervisors, and the countless patients. Anyways, its adios from Camp Nou on November 08 2013 as we hope to discuss more of our views on Neymar, and possibly discuss how courage plays a factor in taking major life-impacting decisions.
